Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AutoCAD is not a free program. But thanks to the program’s many advanced features, it does have a few advantages over other free software alternatives, like DraftSight.

High-quality, smooth rendering

AutoCAD is one of the first programs to render 3D models with shader effects and the transparency effect. If you render your design with the Transparency Effect the results are amazing. And if you render a 2D layout, you’ll see a cleaner, smoother result. But it doesn’t stop there. AutoCAD also has many advanced 2D features. The output is professional-grade and the software can be used for a wide variety of purposes.

The latest AutoCAD version (2017) has more than 1,500 new features that include among others:

SmartDraw free work space management

Drafting improvements including hidden line removal and automatic deletion of spline loops

improved fit mode, line gap, and fit object for piping

simplified workplane creation

features for fast rendering of your 3D objects

Improved ease of use for Layers and 3D Cylinders

AutoCAD 2018 22.0 PC/Windows

The language AutoLISP was developed by R. M. Fournier and published in 1989, as part of the AutoCAD Activation Code family. AutoLISP was developed as an alternative to Pascal, with its syntax and implementation being more similar to BASIC, in order to ease learning for users. In AutoCAD it was introduced with version 2.5 (1993) and has been available since. In contrast to other development environments, which are source-based languages, AutoLISP is a compiled language. The goal of AutoLISP is to provide a complete GUI environment, a scripting language and several programming routines. The language is interpreted by a compiler which creates a.lsp or.lspc file and a.csp (compiled source) file. After compilation the files are imported to a workspace.

AutoCAD makes extensive use of blocks, a concept inspired by the LISP programming language. At the top level are user blocks, which allow users to write macros, functions, and the like. These are used to construct the user interface of AutoCAD. Objects, similar to the Pascal class, are used to create properties for these blocks. At a more detailed level, blocks are used to construct drawing objects such as arcs, circles, lines, and text. One additional type of block, labeled Data, is used to store data in AutoCAD. This type is discussed in greater detail below.

AutoLISP as an interpreter
In an interpreter, there is a very small execution environment (usually on a single machine), and the primary language is handled by the interpreter. AutoLISP is an interpreter of its own language.

AutoLISP is a compiled language, because a compiler must understand the programming language syntax in order to translate it into machine code, which requires some understanding of a machine. (Programming languages that compile directly into machine code, such as BASIC, are not “compiled”.) AutoLISP is a “compiled interpreted” language, meaning that it is compiled into a binary form, but also interprets its own language while compiling.

AutoLISP is a dynamic programming language. Dynamic means that an object’s attributes and behavior are defined at runtime. The language is interpreted. A standard interpreter, which reads the compiled code directly, reads from a file. It runs the program line by line, executing the instructions.

AutoLISP requires the machine to know how to execute the

What’s New In AutoCAD?

Now when you import a mark-up file from Word, PowerPoint, or PDF, you get to see the original drawing as a link. When you click the link, you see the drawing and its name displayed as a tooltip. You can click the link to view the original drawing, or you can open the original drawing right away by double-clicking the link. You can use this feature to easily make changes to the original drawing by double-clicking the link. (video: 1:15 min.)

You can also customize how CAD operators see links to drawings in your project. Open the Settings/Preferences dialog box (Preferences) and select “Linking to drawings.” You can then change the default drawing links to display with an image and a tooltip. (video: 1:30 min.)

You can find this option in: Drawing Center/Preferences/Linking to Drawings/Tools.

You can send text as either a complete block or a link to the original drawing. Use the Start Insert menu item to send a block of text, and use the Insert/Link command to send a link to the original drawing.

Import and add blocks of text to your drawings. You can set a default setting so that the Insert/Link command in the ribbon takes you to the drawing that contains the block.

Now you can easily send text from other programs into AutoCAD by using AutoCAD’s Format Painter and Send to Painter tools. (video: 1:35 min.)

In the Format Painter tool, you can control how the selected text appears in AutoCAD:

With Fill, the text fills the selected text frame.

With Stroke, the selected text appears inside a rectangle.

With Stroke+Fill, the text fills the rectangle and a line is added to the bottom of the rectangle.

With Stroke+Fill+Wrap, the text wraps around the rectangle.

The Send to Painter tool lets you choose from:

Fill: The text fills the selected text frame.

Stroke: The text appears inside a rectangle.

Stroke+Fill: The text fills the rectangle and a line is added to the bottom of the rectangle.
